Our Photo Books are printed on super smooth, acid-free, uncoated bright white paper. Books with 140 pages or less are printed on heavy 162 gsm, whereas books with 140-200 pages are printed on slightly lighter 148 gsm paper. Really thick books from 200 - 400 pages use our lightest paper which is 120 gsm.
Text based books are printed on rich paper with 'more tooth' (rougher). Both bright white and natural tone options are available, and the weight is 118 gsm.

Our basic softcover books include 4-color printed covers. The paper used is a heavy 100lb cover stock (270 gsm). You may choose dull coated, gloss laminated, or matte laminated finishes. We always suggest dark printed covers be laminated with gloss to prevent chipping. We do not print on the inside of the cover.

Edition One is excited to offer what we are calling art paper cover. These books are bound with heavy art paper, and the covers are suitable for foil stamping as well as printing. They have a laid texture and feel more robust in the hands than a standard soft cover book, yet they are much cheaper than a hardbound version.
Choose from four stock colors. We can print in full color on the white art paper covers. However, the gray, brown, and black covers are only printable with black ink. Foil stamping looks beautiful on all colors. -
Our Hardcover books are bound with high quality acid-free linen covers. We stock 10 colors of linen, and custom colors are available upon request for orders totaling more than 50 copies. Ordering books with custom colors will result in additional cost.
We use '100 point' acid free binders board exclusively. The result is a thick, firm cover which offers archival longevity. Unlike our competition, each cover is custom made on a per order basis, and proper fit and feel is ensured. -
Hot foil stamping is an age-old process where hot metal dies are used to fuse metallic foil to a receptive surface. The machinery and materials involved require true craftsmanship, and there is no push-button, digital way to make it happen! Maybe that is why we are among the very few short-run bookmakers to offer this service.
We foil stamp our linen hardcover books as well as our art paper covers. Stock colors are gold, dull silver, shiny silver, black, red, and white. 'Blind Stamping' - where no color is used is also available. -
Photographs can be mounted on the cover of your hardbound book. Edition One takes the time to indent the area where the photograph is glued such that the surface of the image is flush or slightly recessed on the cover. This is important because failing to do so will result in the image peeling off the cover! This finishing touch is often called 'tipping-in' , and has been a hallmark of quality book binding for ages. Sizes available: 2"x2", 3"x4", 3.34"x5", 4"x4", 5"x5.85"

Our Dust Jackets are printed on acid-free 170 gsm paper and gloss or matte laminated for flexibility and durability. Full bleed color printing is standard, and each jacket is hand creased and mounted on your book before shipping.
A new option we've just added are 'cloth dust jackets'. These luxurious jackets can be foil stamped just like our hardcovers,a and the same 10 stock colors are available. Please note that we can now mount these jackets on our softcover books too! -
Properly made endpapers are one of the most important parts of book binding. They are literally what holds everything together. The cover is glued to the endpapers, which are glued to the contents of the book. At edition one we use acid free folded endpaper exclusively. Stock colors are cream, and black.
Custom made printed endpapers are available upon request. This will add cost, but the results are stunning. Please email us to learn more if you are interested.
