Last week was our first week without the indomitable Kristen Perkins. Kristen has moved on to new adventures and has left Edition One Books better than she found it. We will miss her sheer energy, endless enthusiasm, and her dedication to our customers and the well-being of the company itself. We wish her the best, and know that many of our clients will feel the same.

If you’re near Arcata, CA this Saturday, stop by Annabeth Rosen’s opening at Humboldt State University’s First Street Gallery! Her work will be showing from April 6th through May 19th.

We just finished making 300 catalogs for the opening- and at 4.75″ x 6″ and 36 pages, the book has that intimate, pocket-sized feel. Don’t be fooled by its small size; this book has several features that make it really special: custom fly sheets printed on vellum, covers made with Bluebell custom cover stock, and some really nice-looking dust jackets. We were told the geometric pattern used on the dust jackets was actually the pattern from the designer’s linoleum tiles in her laundry room!

Below are photographs of the 140 page linen hard cover catalog that accompanies the show. Printed on our super smooth uncoated paper, the book features white foil stamping on the front and spine, white endpapers, and a custom book cloth color of wicker.

Carol’s printed soft cover sized 8.5 inches square features many of her paintings and some insight into her studio and painting process. The catalog’s cover design is perfect for our silk coated cover stock option. Our silk coated cover stock does not require a laminate and has a smooth surface. Its finish is between the shine of the gloss laminate and the softer matte finish of the matte laminate. Silk coated works best with covers that have a light overall design or a primarily white background.

Beyond Time in the Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Garden displays beautiful photographs that highlight this lush garden found in Seal Harbor, Maine. Created by Eileen Rockefeller, this book explores the East Asian inspired garden in its less seen hours; from dusk, through the night, and into dawn. The low light photography by Bob Eddy and Tim Calabro of First Light Studios, is complimented by literary quotes throughout the book.

The Legion of Honor: Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco currently has a show up that we are very excited about. The Book and the Binding displays historical creative book binding design from the early to mid 20th century, when book bindings were beginning to be appreciated for more than just their functional qualities.

The Book and the Binding will be up from November 17th through May 12th and features work by some of “the great masters” Paul Bonet, Georges Cretté. Henri Creuzevault, Pierre Legrain, Marius Michel, and Francois-Louis Schmied.

This is a wonderful opportunity to see beautifully designed leather covers with intricate detail and foil stamping. They just might inspire your next Edition One project!
