Where Hearts Get Left by Jeremy Fish

This week we sent out a really great book (well, 200 of them actually) featuring illustrations – “Drawings Inspired by the City That Knows How” – by local artist Jeremy Fish. Most of us here at Edition One live in San Francisco and were delighted by the drawings. We ended up swapping stories about the dog-cat-rat guy and the tamale lady while casing the books in.

Casing in would be difficult, I was sure, because the hard cases were built with wood panels. But, of the 200 we did, there was only one tiny splinter to deal with. This project also called for a screen printed front and gold foil stamping on the spine, which was constructed with black leather using a quarter bind technique. Overall, I think it was a rather handsome effect well-suited to the contents of the book.

The Lair of the Clockwork Book

This week we have a very meta post … books about a book! From the mind of Bradley W. Schenck comes “a tale of privacy and adventure from the future that never was” – “The Lair of the Clockwork Book.” The production team really enjoyed working on this book, from the foil stamping to the classy, art deco dust jackets. You can see more of Mr. Schenck’s “thrilling tales” series right here.

Another week, another great project

Edition One BooksRecently we shipped one of my favorite projects to date (and I’ve been at Edition One for over a year now). It was a multi-color foil stamped, screen-printed, beautifully designed book finished with an inset image and cased-in – all by hand.

Edition One BooksWe found a very local screen printer – G-Bear Prints, just a few blocks away from our facilities – to print on the top right corner of the book cases. A first for us, we’re planning to add screen printing to our standard finishing options early next month.

And as you can see below, it all came together quite nicely!

Round Robin 2

Edition One BooksA sequel to our friends over at Pixar’s soft cover book from early last year, Round Robin 2 features new illustrations by Daniela Strijleva, Katy Wu, and Jennifer C. Chang based on the word game of the same name. The book has foil stamping on the front and an image printed on the inside of the art paper cover. Be sure to check out the Round Robin blog for more information!
